DraftKings Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Support to Local and National Organizations
Company Launches Free-to-Play Pool to Celebrate and Honor Latinx Athletes, Entrepreneurs
BOSTON, September 24, 2021 — In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, DraftKings Inc. (Nasdaq: DKNG) is engaging in internal and external efforts to celebrate and support the Hispanic and Latinx communities throughout the month and beyond. As part of its DK S.E.R.V.E.S initiative, DraftKings is committed to supporting organizations focused on creating inclusive and responsible pathways for people to build, create, imagine, and innovate. DraftKings plans to support both national and local Hispanic organizations, including Amplify Latinx, Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), and Support Latino Business.
Throughout the month, DraftKings is hosting a free-to-play Hispanic Heritage Month Popularity Pool, which highlights iconic Hispanic and Latinx athletes and entrepreneurs. Internally, DraftKings is holding a “Buy Hispanic and Latinx Challenge” by investing in economic empowerment, parity in commerce, and overall community growth. By developing an extensive catalog of Hispanic and Latinx businesses across its global geographies, DraftKings has made it easy for employees to show their support through purchases made throughout the month. Additionally, DraftKings is encouraging employees to utilize its quarterly $100 company charity-match program to further support their favorite Hispanic/Latinx non-profit organizations.
“DraftKings is committed to advancing and instilling confidence among Hispanic and Latinx members of our company and the communities where we live and work, not only during Hispanic Heritage Month, but year-round,” said DraftKings’ Chief People Officer, Graham Walters. “We believe inclusion, equity and belonging efforts are of the utmost importance, and we are excited to work with organizations like ALPFA, Amplify Latinx, and Support Latino Business that share a mutual commitment.”
Throughout the year, DraftKings will continue to support and explore opportunities for collaboration with ALPFA, Amplify Latinx, and Support Latino Business. The relationship with ALFPA will span both national and local chapters, including Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Phoenix where DraftKings will aid in its recruitment, retention, promotion, development, and branding efforts for the Hispanic community. DraftKings will also support ALPFA in its virtual and in-person events, which bring Hispanic professionals, students, and corporations together around networking and educational opportunities. As a corporate partner of Amplify Latinx, DraftKings will support the organization’s ongoing initiatives including PowerUp, a Latinx-led, collaborative initiative focused on increasing growth and economic opportunity for Latinx-owned businesses in Massachusetts. DraftKings will also support Latino/x businesses nationwide through Support Latino Business, whose mission is to uplift, champion, and resource the estimated 4.7 million Latino/x businesses.
“Amplify Latinx is thankful for the support we have received from DraftKings. We praise them for intentionally structuring a system that fosters corporate responsibility amongst their employees and models inclusive practices within their company,” said Rosario Ubiera-Minaya, Executive Director of Amplify Latinx. “This relationship with DraftKings will directly support and scale initiatives that promote leadership representation and economic mobility for Latinos in Massachusetts.”
“Latino/x-owned businesses contribute over $800 billion to the American economy every year but are unable to scale at the same rates in comparison to other non-Latino/x counterparts and even more so in the midst of the COVID pandemic,” said Jennifer Meza, President & Co-Founder of Support Latino Business. “We are grateful to DraftKings for their vision, commitment and investment in championing the often-unsung players of business so that more Latino/x owners can thrive for generations to come.”
As part of DraftKings’ ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts, the company will continue to explore additional ways to support underrepresented communities.
